Clear your mind with a good game

Being free of worry and stressors can lead to better judgment and overall health, in both body and mind. Here are several games that can help clear your mind.

The mind is a wondrous thing, especially when you’re in control.

Like the sea, everything is serene when it’s mellow. However, there are times that it can get clouded, warped by stressors, and filled with worry and anxiety. A calm and clear mind can make better and sharper decisions while positively affecting the body as well.

And to achieve that, here are ten games you can play to wipe the slate of your mind clean.

However, some of these games need to be installed and updated first. So if you’re looking for something to play to calm you down ASAP, our Sudoku Conquest game fits the bill. Just click the link and hop right into solving!

Want a more modern-looking and feeling game that calms the mind? Then Tracy Fullerton’s Walden, a game might be the change of pace you need to rid the mind of unneeded stress and anxiety.

Tracy came on our podcast and shared her design process that went into building the game to make the experience much more meaningful!

While there are many calming and cozy games, some of them require you to focus, which is something that you can’t always do. Stellar Serenity is a game designed for relaxation that requires little to no concentration, and that means there is zero pressure in the game. In fact, you can even play it while taking a call or just listening to the news or music.

Playing a calming game doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be digital. There are many classic games and activities that are made to clear your mind, and one of the foremost is jigsaw puzzles. Here’s a nice catalog of art and museum-inspired puzzles, and personally, we find Edvard Munch’s The Scream to be the most iconic one among these.

If you’re looking for something more physical and exerting to play in order to clear your mind, then here’s a simple, almost dumb-sounding, but very effective activity to do: just keep throwing a ball into a wall. Of course, make sure that you won’t disturb anyone with your ball throwing. This activity is very stress-relieving and the repeated notions of throwing and catching blanks you out.

You may just be realizing it now, but games—any form of games, really—have always been more than just entertainment and recreation. Even before modern society established itself, games have already been acting as stress-relief and mind-clearing activities that people have enjoyed.

Try and look deeper into your areas’ rituals, customs and celebrations, and you’ll eventually reach the conclusion that a lot of them, when broken down, are actually games! And to that, we share another quote from Tim Schafer, Founder of Double Fine Productions and creator of Psychonauts:

“Games are an escape from reality, and when reality is stressful, games can be a much-needed respite.”
