A military-inspired board game

There are many military video games, but board games in particular? Only a few are well-known, and we recommend Game of the Generals.

In honor of the fallen and to show our support of Memorial Day—which we celebrated earlier this week—we highlight a rather obscure board game today.

Game of the Generals is chess with a military ranking system determining who defeats who. Simple, easy to learn, and very fun to play, it's a nice game to play with family and friends, veterans or not!

Speaking of the Game of the Generals, the ideal experience is to play the board game itself with an opponent and an arbiter. However, there may be times that you still want to play the game even on the go or without access to a game board. Not to worry though, as there’s an app version of it available for download!

But if you really want to have a great time bonding with a fun activity, then having real, tangible board games to play with your friends is an experience that differs from others. Here’s a selection of games you can choose from, and you can pick out which one appeals to you and what you think fits the preferences of the people you’re going to play with.

Had enough of board games and want some alone time? Then jigsaw puzzles are just the thing you need. Most people who start with this calming yet engaging activity often find it hard to put down. Why is that?

While board games aren’t as prevalent as they used to be, there are still very strong and dedicated communities everywhere, especially within the United States. And if you’re feeling a bit restless and want to travel somewhere while still playing your preferred board games, then check out this list of the best cities for board gamers. You might be surprised at the rankings!

From wars to the rise and fall of nations, games and puzzles have withstood the test of time. Any kind of game, as long as more than one person plays it and enjoys it, tends to find its way into the hearts and minds of people at any given time.

Puzzles, in particular, are forms of entertainment so old that they’ve become interwoven with human existence. Some of the most influential people in history enjoyed puzzles not just because they were fun, but because they also provided mental stimulation that could lead to breakthroughs. And to that, we share a quote from Ernõ Rubik, creator of the Rubik's Cube:

“The problems of puzzles are very near the problems of life.”
