Retro games are still as fun as ever

Classic games became "classic" for a reason, after all

When people think of video games, they usually think of AAA titles like Call of Duty or Fortnite.

However, most non-gamers tend to overlook that video games aren’t just about fighting monsters or shooting bad guys all the time. That’s why it’s important to check out the classics of the video game industry to remember the core purpose of video games—to entertain.

Remember Tetris? Now that’s a classic game designed for maximum fun. No loot boxes, no minimaps and no other fluff that doesn’t connect itself to the main gameplay.

Even years after its release, people still continue playing this retro video game. You’d be surprised to know that Patrick Stewart continuously plays Tetris whenever he can.

What do celebrities, Tiktok and Cat AIs have in common? Well, you’d be surprised to know that it’s a website—Chess.com! Its servers started to crash due to the sheer number of people trying to log in and play.

From football celebrities facing each other in chess to a cute cat AI named “Mittens” who even frustrated a grandmaster, Chess.com has become the most accessible online chess platform.

Remember the series “The Queen’s Gambit”? It was a very popular Netflix series. Some disliked it, some adored it, but one thing’s for sure, the visual style of the show was one of our favorites.

And if you’re looking to immerse yourself in a good simulation game, then it’s important to know what makes a sim game good. Is it the writing? The gameplay? The characters? There are so many things to consider when it comes to sim games, but there are several common factors that make an immersive sim become unforgettable and entertaining.

Simulation games are a dime a dozen, but there are several titles that have stayed on top of their field. Some focus on farming and community interactions, like Stardew Valley and the old title Harvest Moon (now Story of Seasons), while others focus on resource management, like Frostpunk and others.

But it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the title “Civilization” is one of the most recognizable sim games in the industry. Created by Sid Meier, a very well-known name in the realm of strategy and sim games, Civilization has stayed a staple of the sim game genre for over 32 years now. And to that, the veteran himself had something to say about video games in general:

“Games were not just a diversion, I realized. Games could make you feel.”
